Audacity Solutions:

Non-Audacity solutions:

  • Use equipment you can borrow.

Commercial Solutions:

  • Choose your microphone carefully, keeping in mind the following principals:
    • A lavalier type of microphone will work well with a recorder or camcorder which contains an audio adjustment, as such a device will normally contain a pre-amplifier to boost sound.
    • The same microphone plugged directly into a computer may have a lapse in volume.
    • Boost volume with:
      • audio settings in your PC’s Control Panel (accessed from the Start menu),
      • a pre-amplifier or audio interface device installed between your microphone and computer, or
      • audio compression and normalization of your recording by an audio editor (Audacity).
  • Alternatively, plug your microphone into a recorder or camcorder (such devices contain a preamplifier at the microphone connection); then download the recording to your PC.
