Audacity solutions:

  • Record into Audacity.
    • For a single track recording, use a single microphone.
    • For a multi-track recording, use more than one microphone.
    • Alternatively, each performer may record separately using a single microphone, with mixing of tracks to be done separately.
  • Remove errors and noise from each track separately.
  • Mix tracks.
  • Apply compression and normalization.
  • Apply effects.
  • Save and export to MP3 format.

Non-Audacity solutions:

Low cost or free:

  • Use microphones belonging to the participants or group.

Commercial:

  • Purchase a field recorder or camcorder, or as many microphones as you will want for recording separate tracks simultaneously.
  • Purchase an audio interface to accommodate the number of microphones you will use, over and above any recorder or camcorder microphones.
